Welcome to www.maxdumesny.com – the official
website for legendary Australian Sprintcar
superstar Max Dumesny.
This year Max celebrates a milestone in what
has been an outstanding career as he sets
off on his 25th year in Sprintcar Racing.
Now that’s remarkable.
Starting off his career back in 1983 Max
claimed the Wayne Fisher Memorial as his
first ever main event victory and since then
he’s added race after race, title after
title, series crown after series crown.
These days a family man and father of four
based in Nelson NSW, this affable, laid back
character was born in the tiny hamlet of
Nullawarre near Warrnambool in Victoria.
With a blossoming career behind the
handlebars it was first believed that the
young Dumesny would go on to a national
scrambles career, but fate intervened on a
dark night not far from home when, riding
his motorcycle, he struck a cow that had
wandered on to the road.
Battling back from bleak injuries sustained
in the crash, Dumesny pondered a career on
four wheels and sensibly moved into the
Formula 500 category where he tasted
national title champagne before taking up an
opportunity with Victorian motor and racecar
guru John Sidney to drive Sprintcars.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Dumesny these days is a prolific race winner
across all States and territories of
Australia.
His annual pilgrimage across the country to
visit many track that his rivals often shun
has seen him build up a legion of fans in
any State he travels to.
His no-nonsense approach to racing prevents
him from being controversial or arguing an
official’s decision in public, so you’ll
never see the #5 Valvoline / GKR machine
holding up the show.
With no less than 7 World Series Sprintcars
Championships under his belt he’s a living
legend in terms of the Championship widely
regarded as the ‘real’ test of an Australian
Champion.
Of course he’s also won 3 Australian
Championships as well and numerous State
Titles, Warrnambool Classics and more Easter
Trails than anyone in the history of the
sport.
The fact that he wins so many races and
travels so far across the country to compete
each year is only part of the appeal
however.
The cheeky personality, the laid back
approach to racing, the patience he has with
fans of all ages, and the ‘aint goin down
til the sun comes up’ team philosophy all
add up to produce one of the most lovable
characters in the history of Australian
Speedway.
There’s no one else like him…
